A Sunday at Ascend Church: Moments Worth Remembering

A look back at a Sunday of Bible teaching, prayer and care for children at Ascend Church, photographed on October 11, 2026.

On October 11, I had the privilege of photographing a Sunday gathering at Ascend Church. The room was full of emotion, and looking through the photographs afterward, I kept returning to the small, personal moments woven into the day.

Sunday teaching and prayer.

During the service, the speaker discussed passages from the Bible. I photographed him at the lectern and paid attention to the people listening and praying. One woman held her Bible close with her eyes closed as she prayed. I wanted to keep that quiet part of the service in the photographs, too.

Sunday for the children.

The service was only one part of what was happening that day. In the children's rooms, members of the congregation cared for children of different ages while others attended the service. Older children were taught the Bible there, too. I wanted the photographs to include that care and teaching, from a child held close to a boy listening attentively.

Prayer after the service.

After the service, people stayed for prayer. I photographed quietly as they prayed, including a close portrait of a man with his eyes closed and an embrace. I tried to give people space and let them stay with their prayer. I wanted to record this part of the day without drawing attention away from it.

A few details from the day.

The church also had a separate area for merchandise. That is where I photographed the amber Ascend Church mug and the cream wristbands. They are small details, but I like including them in an event story. They help show the setting as well as what people were doing.

Thank you to Ascend Church for welcoming me and trusting me to photograph the gathering. I am grateful for the chance to document a Sunday that included so much beyond the service itself.
